about

My family loves Paris and traveling in France: the music, food, art, architecture, language, and people are all wonderful. "Souvenirs de la Seine" is a kind of fantasy travelogue comprising musical vignettes of places, times, and people both real and imagined and nostalgia for things as they might have been but probably weren't.

2020 has meant a lot of time at home and a lot of dreaming of where we'd all rather be. The music on this album grew out of the feeling of longing to be somewhere else at some other time. I hope it brings you some pleasure.

Many thanks to Rob Kohler and Joe Sorbara for their contributions to this recording. Having a long-distance musical dialogue around this recording has been very meaningful to me during a difficult time. Your wonderful friendship and musicianship are a continual source of pleasure and an oasis of sanity.

Thanks to my dear friends, Len and Lazz, for your ears and encouragement and for just being who you are.

Thanks to Ross for spurring on my interest in the music of Django Reinhardt and the "jazz manouche" guitar. You were there at just the right time.

Last but not least, thanks to Jennifer and Isabelle for their patience and willingness to comply with requests to move, talk, and just plain exist very, very quietly while this music was recorded just a few feet away in our very small and creaky old house during various stages of lockdown. I know it was trying at times.
